Record #96871:
Dating by physical and chemical seasonal variations and reference horizons / Claus U. Hammer.
Title: | Dating by physical and chemical seasonal variations and reference horizons / Claus U. Hammer. |
Author(s): | Hammer, Claus U. |
Date: | 1989. |
Publisher: | Chichester: John Wiley & Sons |
In: | Environmental record in glaciers and ice sheets : report of the Dahlem Workshop on The Environmental Record in Glaciers and Ice Sheets, Berlin 1988, March 13-18. (1989.), |
Abstract: | Using stratigraphical methods, ice-core dating is now highly accurate, especially those methods based on isotopic composition of ice and seasonal variation of atmospheric trace substances. Various methods are described. Dating of pre-Holocene ice is still problematic. Use of reference horizons is discussed. Major problem of dating is related to rapid climatic changes observed in Greenland ice cores during past glacial period. |
