Abstract: Presents illustrated record of glacier fluctuations in this area with reference to model of glacier response and topographic control first suggested for Lyngen Alps. Suitability of this model for explaining glacial and geomorphic change in north Norway is examined. Topography exerts unusually strong control over glacier fluctuations, and summit area, together with altitude, are important factors in initiation and survival of glaciers.
