Role of the molecular sublayer in the melting or freezing of sea ice / Michael Steele, George L. Mellor, Miles G. McPhee.
Title: | Role of the molecular sublayer in the melting or freezing of sea ice / Michael Steele, George L. Mellor, Miles G. McPhee. |
Author(s): | Steele, Michael. Mellor, George L. McPhee, Miles G. |
Date: | 1989. |
In: | Journal of Physical Oceanography. (1989.), Vol. 19(1) (1989) |
Abstract: | Presents updated scheme for calculating heat and salt fluxes at ice-ocean interface, which draws from laboratory studies of heat and mass transfer in hydraulically rough flows. Also extends discussion of freezing process, including effects of supercooling and frazil-ice production; results provide explanation of high frazil concentrations observed in Arctic and Southern oceans. |
Notes: | Journal of Physical Oceanography. Vol. 19(1) :139-147 (1989). |
Keywords: | 551.328.4 -- Frazil ice. 551.326.2 -- Floating ice, formation and decay. 551.32 -- Glaciology. 551.326 -- Floating ice. 536.421.1 -- Melting. 536.421.4 -- Freezing. E6 -- Glaciology: floating ice. (*80) -- Southern Ocean. (*60) -- Arctic Ocean and adjacent waters. |
