| Abstract: | Two events in January 1989 caused concern among environmentalists for future of conservation of Antarctica: disruption of Adélie penguin breeding site during construction of an air strip at France's Dumont d'Urville research base and oil spill near Anvers Island, off the Antarctic Peninsula, when the Bahia Paraiso, a ship carrying supplies and tourists to Argentinian bases, struck rocks and sank. |
