Abstract: Presents model for thermal growth of border ice in rivers. Derives and tests tentative relations which take into account heat loss to atmosphere, water temperature, and local velocity and turbulence level of river. Applying this model to reach of Lule river, Sweden, shows good agreement with field observations.
