Periodicities and keel spacings in the under-ice draft distribution of the Canada Basin / Jeffrey R. Key, Alfred S. McLaren.
Title: | Periodicities and keel spacings in the under-ice draft distribution of the Canada Basin / Jeffrey R. Key, Alfred S. McLaren. |
Author(s): | Key, Jeffrey R. McLaren, Alfred S. |
Date: | 1989. |
In: | Cold Regions Science and Technology. (1989.), Vol. 16(1) (1989) |
Abstract: | Spectral analysis was applied to 94 km of under-ice thickness data recorded in 1970. Most common periodicities were in range 30 to 130 m, with thicknesses of 500 to 540 and 800 to 1000 m also common in areas of thicker ice. Significant periodicities showed little variability throughout basin, supporting hypothesis of homogeneity. Spacing distributions of independent keels were compared to theoretical negative exponential and lognormal distributions and were found to be significantly different from expected frequencies in former model, but in general agreement with latter model except for deep-draft keels, where distributions did not follow either model. |
