Record #96620:
Water-pressure dependence of the velocity of Ice Stream B, Antarctica (abstract) / Richard B. Alley, Donald D. Blankenship, S.T. Rooney, Charles R. Bentley.
Title: | Water-pressure dependence of the velocity of Ice Stream B, Antarctica (abstract) / Richard B. Alley, Donald D. Blankenship, S.T. Rooney, Charles R. Bentley. |
Author(s): | Alley, Richard B. Blankenship, Donald D. Rooney, S. T. Bentley, Charles R. |
Date: | 1989. |
Publisher: | Cambridge: International Glaciological Society |
In: | Annals of Glaciology. (1989.), Vol. 12 (1989) |
Abstract: | Describes water-pressure theory and uses this, together with Weertmann sliding theory, Boulton and Hindmarsh bed-deformation relation, and field data to model ice stream. Results are that water pressure decreases and till softens down-stream, and that sliding between ice and till contributes <10% of total basal velocity. Three papers descibing this work have been submitted to Journal of Glaciology. |
Notes: | Annals of Glaciology. Vol. 12 :198 (1989). |
Keywords: | 551.32 -- Glaciology. 551.324 -- Land ice. 551.324.54 -- Land ice, flow of particular glaciers: Ice Stream B. E5 -- Glaciology: land ice. (*7) -- Antarctic regions. (*767.3) -- Gould Coast. |
