| Abstract: | Ice motion in Weddell Sea is examined for period from 19 August to 12 October 1986, by means of four satellite-tracked drifting buoys deployed during Winter Weddell Sea Project 1986. Two buoys were launched in south-east and north-west area of sea and two were deployed in Maud Rise area. Buoys operated together for 44 d, comprising basin-scale quadrilateral from which differential kinematic parameters of divergence, vorticity, shear, and stretch were extracted, as well as large-scale pattern of motion. It was found that most deformable episodes were associated with atmospheric forcing events. |
