Abstract: Large area of glacier has been surveyed by airborne (179 MHz) and ground-based (60 MHz) radio echo-sounding to investigate bedrock topography and condition of bed/ice interface since 1982. Shown that reflection intensity from bed, which is corrected for attenuation in ice sheet, has higher value in down-glacier area than in up-glacier area. Area of strongest intensity of reflection from bed coincides with area for which calculated temperature at bed is >-1°C. Boundary area between highest and lowest values of corrected reflected intensity corresponds to area of decreasing basal shear stress. Distribution of high corrected reflection intensity corresponds to area of thinning of ice sheet, which has been measured by ice-flow observations in drainage basin of glacier.
