Record #96595:

Dynamics of the Law Dome ice cap, Antarctica, as found from bore-hole measurements / D.M. Etheridge.

Title: Dynamics of the Law Dome ice cap, Antarctica, as found from bore-hole measurements / D.M. Etheridge.
Author(s): Etheridge, D. M.
Date: 1989.
Publisher: Cambridge: International Glaciological Society
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1989.), Vol. 12 (1989)
Abstract: Investigated by measuring deformation of three bore holes located on approximate flow line: two were drilled (300 and 344 m) in coastal area to within several metres of bedrock and one was drilled (418 m) halfway towards dome centre to about 50% of ice thickness. Detailed measurements of orientation, diameter, and temperature were taken through each bore hole over 1-year span for coastal boreholes and over 10 years for inland hole. Orientation data were reduced to obtain measure of shear strain-rate. Changes in depth of features located by bore-hole diameter measurements were used to obtain vertical velocity profiles. Other measurements discussed are temperature, oxygen isotopes, crystal structure, surface velocities, and surface and bedrock topography.
