Record #96592:

Single folds at the margins of dry-based glaciers as indicators of a glacial advance / T.J.H. Chinn.

Title: Single folds at the margins of dry-based glaciers as indicators of a glacial advance / T.J.H. Chinn.
Author(s): Chinn, T. J. H.
Date: 1989.
Publisher: Cambridge: International Glaciological Society
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1989.), Vol. 12 (1989)
Abstract: These features, which have been observed in Jeremy Sykes and Alberich glaciers, Dry Valleys area, Antarctica, are deduced to have formed during advance of margins of these glaciers where thin, stiff marginal ice has obstructed glacier flow and expansion. Suggests that such folds can be indicator of advance in many fully dry-based glaciers. On Alberich Glacier, fold and associated margin forms suggest that sequence of margin forms evolves when small cirque glacier expands outwards from sloping ramp front to tongue terminating in calving ice cliff.
