Radar reflection from water injected into an Antarctic glacier / R.H. Dean, Curt H. Davis, W. Xin.
Title: | Radar reflection from water injected into an Antarctic glacier / R.H. Dean, Curt H. Davis, W. Xin. |
Author(s): | Dean, R. H. Davis, Curt H. Xin, W. |
Date: | [1989] |
Publisher: | [Ottawa]: IGARSS'89. 12th Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing |
Abstract: | Abstract only. 150 MHz coherent radar system was used to survey areas adjacent to hot-water drilling operation in progress on Ice Stream B, west Antarctica. On two occasions, sequence of radar traverses observed strong specular reflections from temporary horizontal water layers injected into glacier by drilling operation, one at depth of 840 m and other at 780 m. Horizontal openings that received water are totally unexpected structural form at such great depths. |
