Abstract: Describes simple scattering model used to synthesize expected return pulses for comparison with those returned to coherent Antarctic radar depth sounder (described in later paper in this volume, by C.R. Davis and co-workera, p. 2734-2737) from bottom of ice sheet. Model has two parameters: standard deviation of height and horizontal autocorrelation length of bottom roughness. Least-squares fitting procedure allows determination of appropriate parameters from observed roughness.
