Record #96405:

Some Norwegian ophiolite complexes reconsidered / Rolf-Birger Pedersen, Harald Furnes, Greg Dunning.

Title: Some Norwegian ophiolite complexes reconsidered / Rolf-Birger Pedersen, Harald Furnes, Greg Dunning.
Author(s): Pedersen, Rolf-Birger.
Furnes, Harald.
Dunning, Greg.
Date: 1988.
In: Norges Geologiske Undersøkelse. Special Publication. (1988.), Vol. 3 (1988)
Abstract: U/Pb zircon geochronology shows ophiolite complexes formed during at least three spreading events. Two oldest, represented by Karmøy, Gulfjellet and Leka complexes, seem to have occurred in arc-related intra-oceanic basins. Age and rock types suggest that all represent parts of Early Ordovician system. Last phase of spreading-related magmatism occurred in Caradocian time, probably in marginal basin. This was broadly at same time as Taconian emplacement onto Laurentian margin, while obduction of Solund/Stavfjorden ophiolite occurred around Scandian, Silurian-Devonian continent collision.
