Abstract: Quaternary volcanic centres of Bockfjord area are probably world's largest and richest occurrence of xenoliths from uppermost mantle and lower crust. Basaltic magmas erupted at these centres have transported samples of underlying continental lithosphere from depths ranging from 45 km to upper crustal levels. Upper mantle is dominated by Cr-diopside lherzolites. Lower crust is dominated by mafic, meta-igneous, two-pyroxene granulites. Xenolith data suggest that elevated geotherm, upper mantle and lower crustal lithologies extend further south along western Spitsbergen.
