Results of two seismic refraction profiles off Lofoten, northern Norway / A. SellevollM.A. Goldschmidt-Rokita, H.B. Hirschleber, F. Avedik.

Title: Results of two seismic refraction profiles off Lofoten, northern Norway / A. SellevollM.A. Goldschmidt-Rokita, H.B. Hirschleber, F. Avedik.

Abstract: Deep sounding was used to study transition from continental to oceanic crustal structure along two profile lines. Results show that basalt flow covering major part of margin between Vøring Plateau Escarpment and shelf edge off Lofoten is underlain by thick sedimentary sequences. Very strong Moho reflections are observed, indicating abrupt change in Moho depth from 25 - 14 km (ocean) over less than 30 km. Data also suggest block-like crustal structure beneath islands.
