Development of technology for cold regions in Norway / Sveinung Løset.

Title: Development of technology for cold regions in Norway / Sveinung Løset.
Author(s): Løset, Sveinung.
Date: 1988.
In: Norwegian Hydrotechnical Laboratory. Bulletin. (1988.), Vol. 28 (1988)
Abstract: Paper focuses on Arctic research and technology connected to engineering, particularly offshore around Svalbard and Barents Sea, where ocean Polar front shifts to and fro. Ice is bounded by melting point isotherm, same as Polar front in winter. Experience in Svalbard includes mining and building infrastructure in permafrost. Latter can be exploited if thawing can be avoided and table raised into thaw-stable gravel pad. Runway is painted white. Table shows funds and man years spent on Arctic R&D in Norway and main operators and their activities are described.
