Abstract: | Article describes character of species, its breeding, movements and probable population. Initially species maintained itself by increasing reproduction. When Noordsche Compagnie annually equipped about 150 to 250 ships and others joined in, hunting pressure quickly increased. Climate change and change in hunting by chasing in pack ice caused rapid decrease. From 1670 to 1710 average taken was 1287 and from 1750 to 1790 it was 635. |
