Abstract: Food had to last four to five months. Conservation used double baking, salting, drying or smoking. Some live chickens were taken. Local reindeer, birds and scurvy-grass provided variety and vitamins. Victualling lists were studied and some hand collection made and compared. Quantity and protein content were good, but vitamin C was short.
