Abstract: Smeerenburg project offered opportunity to compare inventories with historical finds. Aim of settlement was hard to establish [!] because whaling tools had disappeared. Clay pipe fragments made it possible to date with accuracy of ten years. Textiles were well preserved. Winter clothing was normal Dutch wear, but with more layers when needed.
