| Abstract: | Since WW2 Saami have become much more aware of their handicapped and debased minority status. Laestadian revival movement and various associations founded by Saami have provided activists with frame of reference and basis for action. Article sets out importance of effort to overcome particular interests by inter-Nordic and then international cooperation. Some examples are given of actions taken and some ambiguities, not unique to Saami, revealed. It is believed that problems will disappear when Saami take more active part in cultural life of community. |
