Preliminary report on radiocarbon dating of cryptoendolithic microorganisms / G. Bonani, E. Imre Friedmann, Roseli Ocampo-Friedmann, C.P. McKay, W. Woelfli.

Title: Preliminary report on radiocarbon dating of cryptoendolithic microorganisms / G. Bonani, E. Imre Friedmann, Roseli Ocampo-Friedmann, C.P. McKay, W. Woelfli.
Author(s): Bonani, G.
Friedmann, E. Imre.
Ocampo-Friedmann, Roseli.
McKay, C. P.
Woelfli, W.
Date: 1988.
In: Polarforschung. (1988.), Vol. 58(2/3) (1988)
Abstract: Preliminary measurements using accelerator mass spectrometry of lipids extracted from colonised rocks collected in Ross Desert (McMurdo Dry Valleys) showed a ¹⁴C deficiency indicating a carbon age in the order of magnitude of 10³ years, suggesting that these microbial communities may belong to the oldest living organisms on Earth.
