Preliminary report on radiocarbon dating of cryptoendolithic microorganisms / G. Bonani, E. Imre Friedmann, Roseli Ocampo-Friedmann, C.P. McKay, W. Woelfli.
Title: | Preliminary report on radiocarbon dating of cryptoendolithic microorganisms / G. Bonani, E. Imre Friedmann, Roseli Ocampo-Friedmann, C.P. McKay, W. Woelfli. |
Author(s): | Bonani, G. Friedmann, E. Imre. Ocampo-Friedmann, Roseli. McKay, C. P. Woelfli, W. |
Date: | 1988. |
In: | Polarforschung. (1988.), Vol. 58(2/3) (1988) |
Abstract: | Preliminary measurements using accelerator mass spectrometry of lipids extracted from colonised rocks collected in Ross Desert (McMurdo Dry Valleys) showed a ¹⁴C deficiency indicating a carbon age in the order of magnitude of 10³ years, suggesting that these microbial communities may belong to the oldest living organisms on Earth. |
