| Abstract: | Geometrical changes in lowest 2 km of Werenskioldbreen described for periods 1957-73, 1973-82, and 1982-83. Study based on topographic maps (scale 1:5000) prepared by terrestrial photogrammetry. Determines recession rate during 20th century. Investigates spatial pattern of changes in thickness between 1957 and 1973. Analyzes mean changes up to 1800 m a.s.l., showing importance of vertical component of glacier movement in zone about 400-800 m from front line. Results from model of glacier movement are related to thermal regime of terminal zone of sub-polar glacier. |
