Record #94380:

Effect of variable thermal properties on freezing with an unfrozen water content / Virgil J. Lunardini.

Title: Effect of variable thermal properties on freezing with an unfrozen water content / Virgil J. Lunardini.
Author(s): Lunardini, Virgil J.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: Trondheim: Tapir Publishers
In: Permafrost. Fifth International Conference. August 2-5, 1988. Proceedings. (1988.), Vol. 2.
Abstract: Variation of unfrozen water with temperature causes soil system to freeze or thaw over finite temperature range. Exact and approximate solutions are given for conduction phase change of plane layers of soil with unfrozen water contents that vary linearly and quadratically with temperature. Temperature and phase change depths vary significantly from those predicted for constant temperature problem. Thermal conductivity and specific heat of soil within mushy zone varied as function of unfrozen water content.
