Record #94125:
Cyclic thermal strain and crack formation in frozen soils / Orlando B. Andersland, Hassan M. Al-Moussawi.
Title: | Cyclic thermal strain and crack formation in frozen soils / Orlando B. Andersland, Hassan M. Al-Moussawi. |
Author(s): | Andersland, Orlando B. Al-Moussawi, Hassan M. |
Date: | 1988. |
Publisher: | Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema |
In: | Ground freezing 88. Proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Ground Freezing, Nottingham, 28-28 July 1988. (1988.), Vol. 1. |
Abstract: | Study of generation of tensile stresses by cooling frozen soil. Creep occurs, with permanent deformation, which remains after warming. Subsequent cycles of cooling and warming allow permanent deformation to accumulate followed by eventual rupture in tension. Descibes laboratory tests. |
Notes: | In: Ground freezing 88. Proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Ground Freezing, Nottingham, 28-28 July 1988. Vol. 1. / R.H. Jones, J.T. Holden, eds. |
Keywords: | 551.345 -- Permafrost. Cryopedology. 539.42 -- Ice, tensile strength. E8 -- Glaciology: frost action and permafrost. |
