Record #94115:

A finite element simulation of frost heave in soils / Roland W. Lewis, Wah K. Sze.

Title: A finite element simulation of frost heave in soils / Roland W. Lewis, Wah K. Sze.
Author(s): Lewis, Roland W.
Sze, Wah K.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema
In: Ground freezing 88. Proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Ground Freezing, Nottingham, 28-28 July 1988. (1988.), Vol. 1.
Abstract: Flux equations in freezing soil system are derived by using principles of irreversible thermodynamics. Resulting coupled heat and mass transfer partial differential equations are similar in form to Luikov equations. Numerical model is subsequently developed to depict frost heave mechansim in freezing soil system. Finite element method is applied in this model to solve partially nonlinear form of these coupled differential equations.
