On salt heave of saline soil / X.B. Chen, G.Q. Qiu, Y.Q. Wang, W.K. Shen.
Title: | On salt heave of saline soil / X.B. Chen, G.Q. Qiu, Y.Q. Wang, W.K. Shen. |
Author(s): | Chen, X. B. Qiu, G. Q. Wang, Y. Q. Shen, W. K. |
Date: | 1988. |
Publisher: | Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema |
In: | Ground freezing 88. Proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Ground Freezing, Nottingham, 28-28 July 1988. (1988.), Vol. 1. |
Abstract: | Describes laboratory study of mechanical properties of heavy saline clays and loams. Heavy saline soils will increase in volume due to salt migration and recrystallization of solutes during cooling process (salt heave). Process is not reversible, and salt heave ratio depends on temperature interval, initial density, water content, cooling rate, and overburden surcharge. |
