Winter accumulation reduces summer ablation on Nordbogletscher, south Greenland / Roger J. Braithwaite, Ole B. Olesen.
Title: | Winter accumulation reduces summer ablation on Nordbogletscher, south Greenland / Roger J. Braithwaite, Ole B. Olesen. |
Author(s): | Braithwaite, Roger J. Olesen, Ole B. |
Date: | 1988. |
In: | Zeitschrift für Gletscherkunde und Glazialgeologie. (1988.), Vol. 24(1) (1988) |
Abstract: | Increase in accumulation by certain amount is associated with greater decrease in ice ablation. Explained by assuming that snow ablation has lower degree-day factor than ice ablation, e.g. about 2.5 compared with 7.2 mm d⁻¹ deg⁻¹. Inverse relation between snow accumulation and ice ablation makes it more difficult to forecast runoff from glacierized basin but this is offset in present case by reduced variations of annual runoff from glacierized basin compared with ice-free basin. |
