Abstract: Based on 15 years of research on ice lensing in soils and superficial formations. Approach, which used microstratigraphy and micromorphology as methodologies, compares active (Svalbard and French Alps) and inherited processes and their experimental reconstitution, and is intended to lead to understanding of periglacial processes and climatic significance of cold palaeosols.
