Record #93743:

On the mechanics of glaciotectonic contortion of clays / Volker Feeser.

Title: On the mechanics of glaciotectonic contortion of clays / Volker Feeser.
Author(s): Feeser, Volker.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema
In: Glaciotectonics; forms and processes. Proceedings of various meetings of the Glaciotectonics Work Group : Field Meeting, Møn, Denmark (1986)/INQUA Congress, Ottawa, Canada (1987)/Field Meeting, Norfolk, UK (1988). (1988.),
Abstract: Using symmetry concept in connection with findings on failure mechanics, glaciotectonic contortion processes in Pleistocene, stiff, fissured clay are derived from actual macro (joint size) and micro (particle size) fabrics. Results contradict conventional understanding of shear-induced failure genesis. Joint development is shown to be caused by extension within compressive stress fields. Assuming basal sliding velocities as measured recently, results demonstrate that ground was frozen at time of glaciotectonic deformation.
