Abstract: Based on information obtained from local newspaper articles concerning snow damage during two winter seasons, 1980-81 and 1986-87, which experienced heavy and light snowfalls, respectively. "Damage" was divided into two types: traffic and non-traffic; former included obstructions of road, railway, air and harbour traffic, as well as traffic accidents, and latter included damage and economic losses caused by loads of snow on buildings and other structures, snow accretion, avalanches, and melting snow.
