Natural regeneration of Eriophorum tussock tundra after a fire / I.V. Ignatenko, B.A. Pavlov.

Title: Natural regeneration of Eriophorum tussock tundra after a fire / I.V. Ignatenko, B.A. Pavlov.
Author(s): Ignatenko, I. V.
Pavlov, B. A.
Date: 1988.
In: Polar Geography and Geology. (1988.), Vol. 12(3) (1988)
Abstract: Examines impact of fire on area of Eriophorum tussock tundra in Chaun lowland, north-western Chukotka. Studies of regeneration of vegetation and soils made 1, 3 and 7 years after fire. In terms of species composition, regenerated vegetation was substantially different from original communities, with overwhelming predominance of Eriophorum vaginatum, very slow regeneration of shrubs and mosses, and total disappearance of lichens. Rates of biomass production will return to original level withing 20 years, although destablized soil parameters will take 2-3 times longer to return to normal. Translated from Geografiya i Prirodnyye Resursy, 1988, No.2, p.99-108.
