Record #93594:

North Atlantic sea ice sensitivities of monthly dynamical forecasts / John E. Walsh, Becky Ross.

Title: North Atlantic sea ice sensitivities of monthly dynamical forecasts / John E. Walsh, Becky Ross.
Author(s): Walsh, John E.
Ross, Becky.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: Boston, MA: American Meteorological Society
In: Second Conference on Polar Meteorology and Oceanography, March 29-31, 1988, Madison, Wisc. : preprints. (1988.),
Abstract: Attempts to meet requirement for systematic evaluation of merits of including routinely observed sea-ice anomalies in dynamical forecasts of atmospheric variability over weekly to monthly time scales by running widely known global circulation model (NCAR CFM) in conjunction with boundary conditions for sea ice and ocean surface temperature derived directly from observational data. Observationally-derived states of atmosphere are used to initiate series of 30-day forecasts, which are evaluated from corresponding observed fields. By varying prescribed coverage of sea ice, sensitivity of 30-day simulations to North Atlantic sea-ice extent can be assessed and also whether 30-day forecasts are improved by more accurate specification of sea-ice boundary.
