Record #93593:
Interannual variability of short-period changes in sea ice and atmospheric synoptic conditions in the Canada Basin / J.A. Maslanik, Roger G. Barry.
Title: | Interannual variability of short-period changes in sea ice and atmospheric synoptic conditions in the Canada Basin / J.A. Maslanik, Roger G. Barry. |
Author(s): | Maslanik, J. A. Barry, Roger G. |
Date: | 1988. |
Publisher: | Boston, MA: American Meteorological Society |
In: | Second Conference on Polar Meteorology and Oceanography, March 29-31, 1988, Madison, Wisc. : preprints. (1988.), |
Abstract: | Characteristics of sea ice in region are likely to be influenced by air temperature, which affects surface properties of ice and its rate of breakup though surface melt, and by synoptic-scale atmospheric pressure systems, which can force convergence and divergence in ice pack. Degree to which these two mechanisms is linked are not well defined. This study seeks to clarify synoptic-scale atmosphere/sea-ice interactions operating over short time periods through combined quantitative analysis of remotely-sensed microwave imagery and in-situ data. |
