Maintenance of a railway grade over permafrost in Canada / Donald W. Hayley.
Title: | Maintenance of a railway grade over permafrost in Canada / Donald W. Hayley. |
Author(s): | Hayley, Donald W. |
Date: | 1988. |
Publisher: | Trondheim: Tapir Publishers |
In: | Permafrost. Fifth International Conference. August 2-5, 1988. Proceedings. (1988.), Vol. 3. |
Abstract: | Describes on-going programme to develop cost-effective means of stabilizing track of Hudson Bay Railway, which is constructed on permafrost and is subject to thaw-induced settlement. Two test segments, covering 7 km of track, have been upgraded by bank widening and installation of 400 heat pipes. Ground penetrating radar was used to detect permafrost transitions for accurate location of pipes. Sites will be monitored until 1990. |
