| Abstract: | Climate of archipelago is described using synopsis measurements from several meteorological stations. Thawing and freezing indices are calculated based on calculation of "synthetic" year for these stations. Climate during period between 1980 and 1987 was markedly cooler than in periods between 1920-60 and 1971-77. Should this cooler weather last, average depth of permafrost on Svalbard should increase. |
