Ramming forces on the USCGC Polar Sea / Alfred L. Tunik, Peter V. Minnick, James W. St John, Yung-Kuang Chen, Albert P.Y. Chen.
Title: | Ramming forces on the USCGC Polar Sea / Alfred L. Tunik, Peter V. Minnick, James W. St John, Yung-Kuang Chen, Albert P.Y. Chen. |
Author(s): | Tunik, Alfred L. Minnick, Peter V. St John, James W. Chen, Yung-Kuang. Chen, Albert P. Y. |
Date: | 1988. |
Publisher: | [Delft]: International Association for Hydraulic Research, Committee on Ice Problems |
In: | Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. (1988.), Vol. 1. |
Abstract: | Based on results obtained from strain-gauge records acquired in Beaufort Sea during 1985 winter deployment of this icebreaker. Ultimate aim was to develop ice-load criteria for future design of ships. Specifically, objectives were to measure global force that ice exerts on hull when it rams large ice features, and to increase database of measured ice forces for development of analytical model describing ship-ice interaction. |
Notes: | In: Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. Vol. 1. / Hiroshi Saeki, Ken-ichi Hirayama, eds. |
Keywords: | 624.145.1 -- Floating ice, thrust. 629.124.791.2 -- Icebreakers: Polar Sea. E12 -- Glaciology: frozen ground / snow and ice engineering. |
