Record #93416:

The use of acoustic ranging devices as snow depth sensors: an assessment / J.R. Metcalfe, R.A. Wilson, Barry E. Goodison.

Title: The use of acoustic ranging devices as snow depth sensors: an assessment / J.R. Metcalfe, R.A. Wilson, Barry E. Goodison.
Author(s): Metcalfe, J. R.
Wilson, R. A.
Goodison, Barry E.
Date: 1988.
In: Eastern Snow Conference. Proceedings. (1988.), Vol. 44th [1987] Annual Meeting (1988)
Abstract: In most cases, acoustic sensors provide accurate measurements of snow depth. Data should be collected hourly. Ultrasonic gauge, operating in conjunction with weighing-type precipitation gauge and transmitting hourly, can provide users with acceptable estimate of snow water equivalent as well as information on timing and type of precipitation.
