Ice jams and an analysis of the winter climate at two sites near the White River in South Dakota / Michael A. Bilello.
Title: | Ice jams and an analysis of the winter climate at two sites near the White River in South Dakota / Michael A. Bilello. |
Author(s): | Bilello, Michael A. |
Date: | 1988. |
In: | Eastern Snow Conference. Proceedings. (1988.), Vol. 44th [1987] Annual Meeting (1988) |
Abstract: | Weather records for winter months from 1921-84 were examined to detect any long-term trends and to determine possible relationships between climate and incidence of ice jams in this river. At one site, warmer Decembers and Januarys occurred between 1930 and 1950. Five of seven winters in which ice jams formed occurred after 1950, and during this period significantly lower temperatures were recorded in January. However, no consistent relationship between below-normal temperatures or above-normal precipitation and ice jams was noted. |

Keywords: | 624.145.8 -- Rivers, ice jams and their control. E6 -- Glaciology: floating ice. (78) -- Western states. |
