Record #93364:

Numerical experiments on the hydrothermodynamics of the east Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets / M.Ya. Verbitskiy.

Title: Numerical experiments on the hydrothermodynamics of the east Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets / M.Ya. Verbitskiy.
Author(s): Verbitskiy, M. Ya.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: New Delhi: Amerind Publishing (for Division of Polar Programs, National Science Foundation, Washington, DC)
Language: Russian transliteration entered into original records using BGN/PCGN 1947 romanisation of Russian; Cyrillic text in MARC 880 field(s) reverse transliterated from this by automated process; BGN/PCGN 1947 text then upgraded to Library of Congress romanisation.
In: Data of Glaciological Studies. Chronicle. Discussions, No. 40. (1988.),
Abstract: Proposes three-dimensional mathematical model, based on simultaneous solution of equations of dynamics and thermal conductivity, with surface relief as one of required functions. Results of computations made for present east Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets are in good agreement with empirical data. Results are presented for calculations of some parameters of east Antarctic ice sheet during its maximum at end of Miocene and for last glacial maximum. Suggests that climate warming will not cause any significant change in volume provided that air temperatures increase by no more than 10 to 12°C. With less warming, volume of ice sheet may even grow due to increase of atmospheric precipitation.
