Record #93346:

The simulation of experimental freshwater icicle growth with a simple numerical model / Kent Johnson, E.P. Lozowski.

Title: The simulation of experimental freshwater icicle growth with a simple numerical model / Kent Johnson, E.P. Lozowski.
Author(s): Johnson, Kent.
Lozowski, E. P.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: [Delft]: International Association for Hydraulic Research, Committee on Ice Problems
In: Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. (1988.), Vol. 2.
Abstract: Results of theoretical and experimental investigations have led to development of computer model which yields reasonable estimate of maximum icicle growth rate for given environmental conditions. Insight also gained into mechanism of growth: physics of processes, and, in particular, liquid incorporation at tip, are important in determining length growth rate and final shape of icicle. Experiments also show importance of drip rate for growth in length. Growth in diameter is more straightforward.
