Record #93337:
Field determination of ice jam porosity / Terry D. Prowse.
Title: | Field determination of ice jam porosity / Terry D. Prowse. |
Author(s): | Prowse, Terry D. |
Date: | 1988. |
Publisher: | [Delft]: International Association for Hydraulic Research, Committee on Ice Problems |
In: | Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. (1988.), Vol. 2. |
Abstract: | First published calculation of ice-jam porosity based on direct field measurements of energy and mass balance of ablating ice jam which developed at confluence of Liard and Mackenzie rivers in spring 1983. Figure obtained, of 0.35, is encouragingly close to laboratory value of 0.4, which has been commonly assumed in many ice-engineering formulae without field verification. |
Notes: | In: Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. Vol. 2. / Hiroshi Saeki, Ken-ichi Hirayama, eds. |
Keywords: | 624.145.8 -- Rivers, ice jams and their control. E6 -- Glaciology: floating ice. (*41) -- Canada. (*470) -- Mackenzie District. |
