Record #93325:

Ice cover formation downstream of a large reservoir with variable release / George D. Ashton.

Title: Ice cover formation downstream of a large reservoir with variable release / George D. Ashton.
Author(s): Ashton, George D.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: [Delft]: International Association for Hydraulic Research, Committee on Ice Problems
In: Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. (1988.), Vol. 2.
Abstract: Presents mathematical simulation of accumulation and retreat of ice cover which forms on Missouri River, downstream of Oahe dam, causing flooding due to increased stage associated with resistance of ice cover. Simulation includes variability of discharge and air and water temperatures. Various approximations used in simulation are discussed. Simulation works well in reach of river which is characterized by well-defined channel width and velocities over 0.5 m s⁻¹ at peak daily discharges.
