Modelling of open water area in lake ice due to submerged power plant outlet / Einar Tesaker, S. Roen.
Title: | Modelling of open water area in lake ice due to submerged power plant outlet / Einar Tesaker, S. Roen. |
Author(s): | Tesaker, Einar. Roen, S. |
Date: | 1988. |
Publisher: | [Delft]: International Association for Hydraulic Research, Committee on Ice Problems |
In: | Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. (1988.), Vol. 2. |
Abstract: | Tailwater from power plant is being discharged through submerged outlet into lake. Before construction, laboratory and theoretical investigations indicated that diffusion due to submergence would be sufficient to avoid area of open water above outlet, which can lead to fog development and other temperature effects, in normal winter conditions. However, this has proved not so, and more accurate predictions were sought during 1985-87. So far, conclusion is that direction of outlet is of utmost importance for obtaining desired intrusion of effluent in layered recipient. |
