Abstract: Can be taken as representative of birth and growth of over 2000 closed-system pingos of western Arctic coast of Canada and adjacent Alaska. Has grown in bottom of lake that drained catastrophically in 1900. Bench marks were installed in permafrost on pingo and adjacent area in 1972, and were surveyed each summer up to 1976, and again in 1983 and 1987. Growth rate has been steady from 1935 to 1976, after which it has declined.
