Record #93077:

A laboratory study of vertical ice forces on piles / F.T. Christensen.

Title: A laboratory study of vertical ice forces on piles / F.T. Christensen.
Author(s): Christensen, F. T.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: [Delft]: International Association for Hydraulic Research, Committee on Ice Problems
In: Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. (1988.), Vol. 1.
Abstract: Aim was to measure maximum induced vertical ice forces on piles during water-level changes, and to study effect of amplitude and frequency of changes on induced forces , short- and long-term. Additional aim was to study group effects in clusters of piles. Only first cycle of water-level fluctuation is considered. Test results show discrepancy between measured forces and forces predicted by theory. Reasons for this are discussed. Use of urea model ice and use of cantilever beam tests for determination of flexural strength are questioned.
Notes:

In: Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. Vol. 1. / Hiroshi Saeki, Ken-ichi Hirayama, eds.
