Record #93072:

Ice forces on the Nanisivik wharf / Robert M.W. Frederking, M. Sayed.

Title: Ice forces on the Nanisivik wharf / Robert M.W. Frederking, M. Sayed.
Author(s): Frederking, Robert M. W.
Sayed, M.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: [Delft]: International Association for Hydraulic Research, Committee on Ice Problems
In: Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. (1988.), Vol. 1.
Abstract: Ice stresses and environmental factors at wharf on Strathcona Sound (fjord-like feature at north end of Baffin Island, Canadian Arctic) are reported for winter 1985-86. Ice regime is that of landfast first-year sea ice attaining maximum thickness of 1.6 m in May. Primary mechanism of generating ice loads appears to be temperature-induced strains in ice cover. Thermal analysis based on secondary creep behaviour predicts thermal stresses lower than those measured.
