Abstract: | Describes tests carried out in laboratory to investigate rate of refreezing of broken ice, using fresh-water ice and newly developed model sea ice. Average depth of consolidation appears to be linear with respect to square root of freezing index (i.e. product of freezing temperature and freezing time). For test conditions used, rate of consolidation of broken ice rubble was twice as high as growth rate for level ice under same ambient conditions. |
