Measurement of blowing snow properties using optical attenuation devices / John W. Pomeroy, T. Brown, David H. Male.

Title: Measurement of blowing snow properties using optical attenuation devices / John W. Pomeroy, T. Brown, David H. Male.
Author(s): Pomeroy, John W.
Brown, T.
Male, David H.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: [Delft]: International Association for Hydraulic Research, Committee on Ice Problems
In: Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. (1988.), Vol. 1.
Abstract: Describes system which measures simultaneously two optical indicators of blowing snow: proportion of light extinguished while passing through snow-air flux, and number of pulses caused by blowing snow particles interrupting narrow beam of light. Using geometrical optics theory, drifting mass density and mean particle size can be determined from these two measurements.
Notes:

In: Proceedings, the 9th International Symposium on Ice, 23-27 August 1988, Sapporo, Japan. Vol. 1. / Hiroshi Saeki, Ken-ichi Hirayama, eds.

Keywords: 551.321.7 -- Snow cover, measurement of properties.
551.578.466 -- Snow, surface forms and drifts.
E3 -- Glaciology: instruments and methods.
