Record #93008:
Density of new snow in the central Sierra Nevada / Bruce J. McGurk, Dave Azuma, Richard Kattelmann.
Title: | Density of new snow in the central Sierra Nevada / Bruce J. McGurk, Dave Azuma, Richard Kattelmann. |
Author(s): | McGurk, Bruce J. Azuma, Dave. Kattelmann, Richard. |
Date: | 1988. |
In: | Western Snow Conference. Proceedings. (1988.), Vol. 56th Annual Meeting (1988) |
Abstract: | Results confirmed unsuitability of 10% density value for converting snowfall into snow water equivalent, or vice versa, at site near Soda Springs, CA. For water years 1984-86, new snow density averaged 12%. Regression equation relating air temperature to density was estimated, but coefficient of determination was only 27%. Local upper air temperature might be better predictor of snow density than average surface air temperature. |
Notes: | Western Snow Conference. Proceedings. Vol. 56th Annual Meeting :158-161 (1988). |
Keywords: | 551.579.2 -- Water supply from snow. 551.578.46 -- Snow cover and snow patches. 531.754 -- Ice, density. E10 -- Glaciology: snow and avalanches. (79) -- Pacific states. |
